The Wild West

These watercolors re-create old posters from Gordon Lillie’s traveling Wild West Show which came to Middletown, CT, around the turn of the century
The posters were hidden behind the facade of a building in my home town, and were discovered during a renovation in 1992. They didn’t survive the renovation process, but my paintings document their condition when discovered.

For me, these images evoke the American myth of Cowboys and Indians and the
romance of the Wild West.
